·        All permits must be reviewed and signed by the Town Supervisor (call 281-4261)
prior to being sent to the Washington             County Department of Code Enforcement for final approval.

Conservation Licenses (hunting/fishing)


·        Licenses must be issued in person at the Town Clerk’s office.

·        When purchasing a hunting license for the first time, you will need to present an
educational certificate specific to the                 license you wish to purchase (fishing license excluded).

·        For a subsequent license, you will need proof of a previous license or your 
driver’s license.

Dog Licenses


Laws established by New York State and the Town of Jackson require every dog over four months of age to be licensed annually in the Town in which a dog is harbored.

·        Dog licenses can be processed in person at the Town Clerk’s office or by 
completing a form found on this website.

·        Requirements for applying,

        1.  Must present a current certificate of rabies vaccination from a licensed 
veterinarian. Receipt showing payment of the                 vaccination will NOT be accepted.

        2.  Spay or neuter certificate if applicable Often, this is identified on the rabies certificate.

        3.  Correct fee for dog (see Fees below)

·        Dog licenses are valid for one year at which point a renewal letter will mailed to 
the owner by the Town Clerk.

 
Service Dogs: 

·        Any guide, service, therapy, hearing or detection dog is required to be licensed

·        Upon presenting documentation that said dog is a “service, etc.” dog (with current r
abies certificate); the license fee will             be waived.

Seasonal Dogs: 

·        Any dog, whose owner does not reside primarily in the Town of Jackson, may
show proof of license from another                     municipality.

Purebred Licenses (this not a Kennel License): 

·        These licenses are available in the Town of Jackson.  When applying, the owner 
must show for EACH dog:

o       Proof of registration with a club such as the American Kennel Club (AKC);

o       Current rabies vaccination certificate of each dog; and

o       Proof of spay/neutering, if applicable.

Fees:    Spayed/neutered dog                            $ 5.00/dog

            Unaltered dog                                     $10.00/dog

            Service dog                                          no charge

               Replacement tag                                  $ 3.00/tag

Purebred License
         

·     Up to 10 dogs - $30.00 statutory fee plus the NYS surcharge of $1.00/altered dog
or $3.00/unaltered dog; and

·     11-25 dogs - $60.00 statutory fee plus the NYS surcharge of $1.00/altered dog or
$3.00/unaltered dog; and

·     More than 25 dogs - $125.00 statutory fee plus the NYS surcharge of
$1.00/altered dog or $3.00/unaltered dog.

Elections


·     Town Clerk works with the Board of Elections and the local Election Inspectors to
coordinate Primary, General & Special             Elections.

·     Residents over age 17 interested in serving as an Election Inspector should either 
contact the Town Clerk or the                         Washington County Board of Elections at (518) 746-2180.

·     Voter registration forms as well as absent ballot applications can be obtained
through the Town Clerk’s office.

or e-mail) to the Town Clerk’s office

Games of Chance & Bingo Licenses


The Town Clerk, on behalf of the Town and New York State Racing and Wagering Board, processes applications for Games of Chance and Bingo Licenses. Prior to obtaining a license, an organization must first apply for and receive an identification number from the NYS Racing and Wagering Board. Specific details for this process may be obtained at www.racing.state.ny.us.

Handicap Parking Permits


Parking Permit tags must be obtained in the Town Clerk’s office in which one resides. Parking Permits are issued to a person not a vehicle. There is NO fee for a Parking Permit.

Applications:

·      Most often obtained from one’s physician (medical doctor or doctor of 
osteopathy), podiatrists or nurse practitioner.                  PLEASE NOTE – A signed doctor’s prescription is NOT acceptable.

·     Applications are also available through the Town Clerk’s office or by going 
to www.nysdvm.com for the form MV-664.1.

·     Applicant completes Part I

·     Physician completes Park II

·     A completed application can be brought to the Town Clerk along with the 
applicant’s driver’s license. If an applicant is                 unable to apply in person, please contact the Town Clerk.

Parking Tags:

·     Permanent Tag is issued to a resident who is certified by a physician as having a 
permanent disability, impairment or             condition for a period up to five years at which time a new tag can be issued. Effective October 8, 2008, physician                     assistants may certify that an individual has a permanent disability, impairment or condition.

·     Temporary Tag is issued to a resident who is certified by a physician as being
temporarily disabled for up to six months.         If a temporary condition still exists after six months, a new certification is required before a new permit can be issued.             Physician assistants may NOT certify a temporary disability, impairment or condition.

Marriage Licenses


·     Both the bride and groom must be present at the Town Clerk’s office.

·     If one or both applicants are under 18 years of age, parental consent is required.

·     Marriage licenses are valid only in New York State.

·     A marriage license is only valid for 60 days beginning 24 hours after the exact time it 
is issued.

·     Fee:  $40.00.

·     Applicants must bring one of the following age-related documents and one of the
following identity-related documents:

Notary services are available. Proper identification is required and one must appear to sign documents in person.

Subdivision applications are available online or through the Town Clerk’s office and must be received in the office two weeks prior to the meeting the applicant wishes to attend.

Registrar of Vital Statistics


The Town Clerk is the appointed Registrar for the Town. The Registrar is the keeper of all birth, death and marriage records within the Town. It is the responsibility of the Registrar to issue birth and death certificates, marriage licenses as well as burial permits. The Registrar also conducts genealogical searches.

Tax Collection


            Town/County/Fire Taxes:

·     Town Clerk-Tax Collector mails tax bills (generally) the first business day after 
Christmas

·     Payments are due without penalty on January 31st 

·     Payments can be made in cash or by check payable to:  Jackson Tax Collector.

·     Currently, the Town of Jackson does NOT have the capability to accept debit or
credit card payments.

·     In early April (date varies), any unpaid taxes are turned over to the Washington
County Treasurer at which point, property         owners need to contact the Washington County Treasurer at (518) 746-2220 for updated amount due.

School taxes


·     The school districts mail tax bills about one week after Labor Day

·     The bills will specify if the school or a designated bank is collecting the payments. 

·     Payments are due without penalty by September 30th.
